GROUNDS FOR LEARNING

School grounds are very important to learning and development in young children. They provide opportunities for exercise, creative play, making friends, learning through doing and getting in touch with the natural world.

Grounds for Learning is part of the UK charity - Learning through Landscapes. Its main aim is to help Scottish schools make the most of their outdoor spaces for play and learning.

I believe that all children enjoy and benefit from well designed school grounds. As an accredited practitioner for Grounds for Learning I have worked with many local primary schools such Cornbank St. James, Cockenzie , Murrayburn, Broxburn, Dunbar, and Cockburnpath helping them develop their grounds into spaces that can be used as outdoor classrooms.

More recently I was asked to develop a CPD package and worked for a year with Prestonfield Primary developing their courtyard and doing twilight sessions with the staff to help them deliver lessons using their fruit and veg.

I have also worked collaboratively with Creative Partnerships with a school in Berwick- upon-tweed introducing them to outdoor learning using the space outside and helping them to develop this space through a series of workshops with the children and their teachers.
